I never understand why anyone would go out of their way to talk about music they dislike (especially intensely dislike). The chances are that such people have not taken the trouble to listen to the music on many occasions or in many versions, as people who like the music and know it well have. Perhaps the motive is just provocation.

Sometimes "liking" things can get in the way of understanding them.
What IS interesting about pieces like DoG is that the balance between the "music" as a sonic phenomenon and things like the text and context.
Conflating taste with value can be a mistake.
I never understand people who only listen to music they like.
But carry on....... i'm sure it was a great gig if that's your thing

Now isn't that interesting?
I'm not a great enthusiast
So how about a trip to Nashville ?
Zoe Martlew has this on her website
"She studied at the Royal College and Academy of Music, Clare College, Cambridge and the Chopin Academy in Warsaw, is naturally blonde and draws the line at Dutch techno."
She used to say that she "draws the line at Country and Western"
How about "Country and Eastern" ?

Despite being something of an Elgar enthusiast, it was some time before I came to appreciate Gerontius, whereas with The Kingdom, it was love at first hearing (and still high on my desert island list). Being brought up to attend Halle concerts in the 1960s, I was first introduced to the work by hearing Barbirolli's recording, but it was not until I heard the Pears/Britten version that It finally clicked.
Yet the finest performance I ever heard was given by the Chesterfield Philharmonic Chorus with the South Yorkshire Symphony Orchestra in the early 80s.
