I am really looking forward to this EMS. The Cardinall's Musick is one of my favorite groups. I have never heard them live but will remedy this at the York Early Music Festival in July.

As far as I'm concerned, Andrew is a very fine musician with a distinctive vision for this music, which is well realised by excellent singers. I don't see what the problem is.

Short answer to question: no.
And as I tried to indicate it is my opinion. I am in no way casting aspersions on their musical skills which are manifestly of an extraordinary order. I'm just not terribly fond of the sound they collectively make. 'Reprehensible' is your word, not mine.

Something to do with a top line of adult women, then?
I personally much prefer to listen to the groups where the top line(s) is/are sung by adult women. Personal preference of the uninformed, obviously.

I'm just interested in why you don't care for them. It's not a female top line, because you like Stile Antico. It can't be the singers themselves, unless you also rule out the Sixteen and the TS.
So what is it?

Isn't this thread getting a bit silly? And maybe a bit hostile too. We are so fortunate to have in the UK small professional chamber choirs (many listed above) who can do the pre-Ref repertoire amazingly well. We are equally fortunate to have places such as NCO, CCO, StJCC, StMary's Edinburgh and others who can make 'professional' recordings with kids on the top line/s. Spoilt for choice, I call it!
