15/12 no EMS, 22/12 no EMS

No Early Music Show this week AND nest week.

    29th December
Early music stalwart, the soprano Dame Emma Kirkby is today's guest presenter of The Early Music Show, and chooses some of her favourite seasonal music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque.
Emma Kirkby introduces seasonal music from the Middle Ages, Renaissance and Baroque.

I don’t like the sound of this very much: ‘today's guest presenter of The Early Music Show’….. We’ll see what the new year will brings.

[ed] why has EMS in the title changed to ems? Could Host change it back?

the bad news takes up less space when printed this way? - seriously sounds yet another nail in R3's coffin

Yes, well I fear EMS is not going to fare well in the Future. I was surprised that with the exception of Serse that no early music is being reviewed as 2013 recommendations on CD Review.

I see they've got a different photo of Lucie Skeaping to go above the headline: Seasonal Music with Emma Kirkby
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

That photo has appeared before. It’s the same photo but Lucie’s face seems to have been ‘touched up’ (Ugh..)

I adore Emma Kirkby as a performer or a guest to a programme. Early Music Show isn’t, hasn’t (…..well, may be already ‘wasn’t’) a kind of programme in which someone comes in and talks about something they already know and plays music in no particular order. It is based on serious research and presented with a purpose and excellent skills (and a lot of love).

If it is going to be turned into yet another chat with nice music sort of programme, I’d rather see it go completely.

Have I missed the alto (or bass-baritone) model??
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

If you can't rely on the EMS being on R3 at 1pm on a weekend (now 2pm on a Sunday) what can you rely on in life?

It should, of course, read: "Dame Emma Kirkby, soprano, is today's guest presenter of The Early Music Show...(take it away, Dame Emma)."

Or even "Soprano Dame Emma Kirkby is..."

But thank you ff for endorsing my pickiness: I'd flirted with the notion of putting something on Pedants' Paradise but wasn't quite brave enough...

That is, of course, the acceptable formula. I'm not sure which version was worse, mine or the BBC's!

This is becoming a habit: yes i see that early music is not a priority and can also see now why CB left. The station is going to pot :/

Sadly, I must agree. I feel that Early Music is not a priority for R3. And can see why Catherine left. There is little to listen to unless you are enamored of Tweets and inane text messages.

I can't even find EMS on the website any more - it doesn't seem to be featured, or listed in the alphabetical list - at least I can't find it. I'm sad to say I haven't listened to it live on air since the time shift, because the new slot doesn't suit (I daresay it suits others) and I haven't got round to listening on iPlayer. All very sad.

                            Neither can I.

Perhaps LS has jumped ship as well!
