Croft Utrecht Te Deum

We all know and have heard performances of Handel's Te Deum and Jubilate for the Peace of Utrecht. I have never heard the Te Deum written by Croft. I believe there is one recording of it on the River People's site. I would be interested to know if any Forum Members know of this work or have heard it.

Thanks, I am considering the Netherlands Bach Society recording. It has had some good reviews. I am unfortunately, not very familiar with William Croft's music.

I also was going to mention the St Paul's/John Scott/Parley of Instruments version, which I've got somewhere. I have also sung this Te Deum (the Te Deum in D) on more than one occasion, but is this the same as the Utrecht Te Deum? Sorry to be so ignorant on the matter. If you like Croft's music in general, there is a lovely LP produced by The National Trust (of all people) NT005. Whether it's available any more or in CD format, I do not know.

My research on the net leads me to believe that there are 2 Te Deum's. One in D and the Te Deum for Utrecht. The recording of the Utrecht Te Deum cites that it is the world premier recording of the work.

That Hyperion disc is superb, and now available on their budget price Helios label. I still have that National Trust Croft LP - it was one of four themed programmes produced by the Trust in association with various early music ensembles (including the AAM) but sadly those discs never made it to CD. Such a shame, the Croft one had a lovely suite of theatre music on it played by a baroque band under John Holloway.

These as much as the Burial Service and other similar choral works, shew him to be a direct heir to Purcell, H. and not far inferior. One wonders how his reputation might have flourished if he had not come to Bath for a cure, only to be culled by the doctors here (He was pencilled in for George II's coronation anthems: Handel had to replace him at short notice).
