Yet another nail in the coffin of R3. The last straw for me will be when CD Review is axed - the way things are going these days, nothing would surprise me.
Worse news still?

Never mind - Richard Bacon is very entertaining.

Very best wishes to Catherine and thanks for everything, very sorry to see you go.
I should probably own up that I am the, distinctly not proud, possessor of the book mentioned as the basis of the new series in the blurb - Everything You Ever Wanted To Know................given as a Christmas present by criminal daughter.
It is even to me, the novice of the board, cringe making ......each page has a potted biography of a composer in a little box - two examples without boxes....
Benjamin Britten
Born 1913
Died 1976
Nationality English
Must Listen: Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra ; Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes; Ceremony Of Carols
Peter Maxwell Davies
Born 1934
Nationality English
Must Listen: Farewell To Stromness
I cannot help feeling that if R3 had announced a 150 week series to a similar strapline within say Essential Classics there might have been the odd grumble from the pavilion.....Last edited by antongould; 11-10-13, 19:11.

Just waiting to see whether they will put the prog on a Saturday afternoon at 4pm to rival Radio 3's new film music programme ...
Anyway I can't see CB having any truck with a stupid programme :-)It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

It goes without saying that the programme continues (albeit halved in output) in good hands and good heart, that I shall miss them all very much, and that I shall go on listening to it, as I hope you will.
This is most reassuring. Thank you. Although the programme will never be the same without you, I will definitely go on listening.

My first programme goes out on Sunday October 27th at 9pm
Nor can I (re: stupid programme). Catherine has made a very fine silk purse out of a sow’s ear during the last (at least) couple of **** fests. Besides, if CFM had wanted Essential Classics type, they wouldn’t have approached Catherine in the first place.

Catherine's show is at 9pm on a Sunday - this is virtually an advert and jingle free zone. I'm sure no-one on these boards would suggest that Catherine is likely to have a soupy, swooning style
As with others on this thread I wish CB all the best - she will be sorely missed.

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

So many replies - and I missed the most important one! Really appreciate Catherine contributing to the forum over the years since we began, and especially to this thread.
If she will be continuing to listen to the EMS, perhaps she'll perhaps continue to post here now and again. Even in her very humble capacity of 'mere listener' she'll still be very welcome :-)
May she sail into her pastures new with leaps and bounds! It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.
