The sales of CDs in the field, and attendance at medieval / Renaissance / early music events IME are rising.

The more they trot out tired war horses, the more they blunt and diminish exploratory essays into other genres, and the LESS they are responding to where a decent proportion of their audience is at. The BBC has gone out of its way to sustain these fields, live events in these genres are a heck of a lot cheaper than orchestral events, so......?

OK, I accept that playing endless CDs with tweets and texts is cheaper than any live music, so the retreat from cultural as opposed to ratings material advances. BBC Trust's eyes currently elsewhere as they have been for the last two or three years, so is that how it's sneaked in?

I would dearly love to know who is advising them.

But a film music replacement responds to a broader, bigger audience.

It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

I think the issue is that they may have trouble informing this audience which are probably not regular listeners of the existence of these programs. I am saddened by the fact that I am a huge fan of Early Music and have enjoyed that Radio 3 has recorded many of the concerts at the York Early Music Festival. I expect such event recordings will probably suffer as well.

We can only hope that these will continue - but perhaps in the live performance slots rather than the EMS. :WIND:

I am lost for words. It makes no sense. Well, actually, it makes very good sense to show what kind of a radio station Radio 3 has come to. How long will it be before CD Review and Composer of the Week go?

                      I'm afraid you are.

The key to the mystery is the time jean sent her message - i.e. 8:20 pm yesterday. The link she sent was to "Listen Live" which will always take you to whatever is being played on Radio 3, in real time. Consequently, at 8:20 last night CB was presenting a live concert relay from Salford (oh the glamour!). However, as regular evening concert listeners will know , this was already one of CB's gigs.

Ah yes. I've caught CB doing this in Swansea, presenting BBC NOW concert from the platform. A useful sideline in these troubled times.

Yes - that's the answer. Sorry.

Shows how rarely I listen to it!

Or In Tune listeners - SR/SK often have a little parley with the presenter of Live in Concert.
