    One TEMS fewer

It appears TEMS is to be reduced to one hour per week from later this month. The remaining programme will be on Sundays, 2-3pm.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Oh dear, that will upset friend doversoul who is away forthe weekend.

When my hearing aids get going I will really try to widen my musical horizons

This is appalling. Is it based on audience research,do you think? Is there too much early music on R3? For me, one of the outstanding programmes with two of the best and most knowledgeable presenters on the station. Sounds like part of general dumbing down.

The press release says they have had to make difficult decisions because of large budget cuts. And someone seems to have decided that Radio 3 gets a much bigger cut than other services.

And pray tell what are we getting to replace TEMS? How to text and tweet? Maybe a weekly discussion on overplayed works that barely merit a single play?

The exact slot, 1-2pm, will be filled by a repeat of one of the lunchtime recitals from earlier in the week. They plead budget cuts but we have an additional strand at 4-5 - the Sound of Cinema - so I don't imagine there's a budget saving there. Just film music instead of early music.

Since the pan-BBC Sound of Cinema starts, I think, on 16th, I imagine they'll hope to promote the new programme and get new listeners.

Thanks, FF. We are going to have to go through unending performances of film music until they finish the best movie score of all time project. This morning we had another outing of the Warsaw Concerto. Oh well, such is life with the BBC. I seriously doubt that the 4-5 slot on Saturdays is going to be a big draw. Maybe they can add a program of Classic Disco.....I will miss the extra TEMS. It is the only program other than CD review I listen to regularly.

Ha! I can think of some other savings they might make, looking no further than presenters.....

I'd like to amend that: looking no further than autocutie presenters stuck to tweets and emails

it seems that RW can wreck even more of R3 - it seems that his end objective is R2 for the over 50's

                        It IS very disappointing news.

But do you really think they pay them all that much?

It's an IMO better option than cut the EMS hours of Catherine Bott or Lucie Skeaping...

RW says on the blog that World Routes has been axed because of the expense of travel abroad (why did anyone have to travel abroad, then?). But if Sound of Cinema is going to be cheaper (in view of the "much reduced" budget) than TEMS - for which a good deal of research must be involved most weeks, it sounds as if the film strand will be a bit of chat and some CDs. Or the explanations are a load of garbage.
