    Bbcmm: Aam, hip(p) and ddd

Interesting article in this month's (September) BBC Music Magazine ( http://www.classical-music.com/issue/september-0 ) by Stephen Johnson on the 40 years of the Academy of Ancient Music. He asserts that flowering of Historically Informed/Authentic(ke) performance in the 1980s coincided fortuitously with the advent of CDs:

    1) The record companies were looking to re-record their vinyl back catalogue in the new medium

    2) The digital medium lent itself to the quieter period instruments partly due to the lack of surface noise and partly due to the characteristics of the digital recording/reproduction itself.

Well, I thought this was interesting anyway!

Edit: I apologise for lower case in the title - it was all in capitals in the title box when I sent it - honest!
