Tallis Scholars - Live in Concert Wednesday 10 July

Just listening on iplayer - Sublime polyphony from Tewksbury Abbey. Well worth a listen.

Last Thursday I was in Durham Cathedral for the Sixteen's current Choral Pilgrimage (http://www.thesixteen.com/page/the-c...ilgrimage-2013) - well worth a visit if they are in your locality. Superb sonority in a fantastic "space".

    Heard this on the radio.

Unfortunately our attempts to attend the Sixteen's Choral Pilgrimage in Manchester were foiled by a journey that took two hours instead of the expected 45 minutes, apparently because someone called Robbie Williams was singing somewhere, and we missed the first half entirely.

I'd be interested to hear opinions of their reconstruction of a more authentic Allegri Miserere compared with the conventional version the Tallis Scholars gave us here.

Leaving aside 'more authentic' or 'less ditto' does anyone know the CD Miserere by Ensemble William Byrd conducted by Graham O'Reilly? It's a French group and the label appears to be Ambronay. It is fabulous singing and the abellimenti are ear-scruchingly glorious...some apparently based on the historical development of the piece at the Sistine chapel by Allegri's successors. The disc also has Miserere settings by Scarlatti, Viadan and Leo. It's one of my all-time favourite choral discs.
