Andrew talks to Simon Heighes about recent releases of operas by Pergolesi, Gluck and Cherubini
I have to admit that I don’t often think beyond that Stabat Mater and a few odd instrumental works when it comes to Pegolesi. So I had a quick look at Presto Classics and found not one but THREE operas by Pergolegi are being released, all with great names.
Lo frate ‘nnamorato
Europa Galante, Fabio Biondi
L'Olimpiade
Academia Montis Regalis, Alessandro de Marchi
Flaminio
Accademia Bizantina, Ottavio Dantone
PLUS, whilst not an opera, it has superb performers:
Septem verba a Christo in cruce moriente prolata
World-premiere recording
Sophie Karthäuser (soprano), Christophe Dumaux (countertenor), Julien Behr
(tenor), Konstantin Wolff (bass)
Akademie für Alte Musik, René Jacobs
Any Pergolegi experts out there?
