    Weckmann: Conjuratio

This is a new composer to me but I am really enjoying the excerpts on the Disc of the Week from CD review. What do any of the other Forum members know of him or think of his work?

I'm very fond of Weckmann's music (mid to later C17 music generally I find fascinating: for its extremely various kinds of stylistic flux and a mix of the fantastic and the melancholic). The new CD sounds essential - I'm a great admirer of Philippe Pierlot .

    These are very good http://www.prestoclassical.co.uk/r/H...undi/HMC902034

There was a CotW featuring Weckmann, maybe 6 or so years ago. I too was very struck by the convoluted (in a good way) fantasy of some of the organ works. Like an OCD Bach on steroids.

There are two Naxos discs, if memory serves, of the organ works. I regularly intend to purchase them but have not yet done so.

That is about as much as I know about him!

My only experience of Weckman was on a cd of him and Froberger played by Leonhardt. Since Fronerger is a favourite of mine, I found the Weckmann rather lacking by comparison. I did however greatly enjoy the performance by Pierlot so may check out more.

Heard it all in the car yesterday - the only piece of his I've ever sung is an Annunciation scene, but I'm going to ask the EMShow team about him too (see Utrecht thread and Wm Croft). Best wishes, Catherine
