    But see also my OP.

I hoped that if we could manage the second successfully, it might lead to the first.

After all, it's better to have a service than a concert if you can possibly manage it.

Have you mentioned it today, CB? It be an interesting programme to say the least!

He is being reinterred in 2013, not 1485 ...
...so a Requiem from Whitaker or Lauridsen then?

But I bet she won't be allowed to say where the idea came from

Given the ideas & (fascinating) discussion on this thread it would be worth more than one programme.

God help us! Or another contrafactum by the one beginning with M and ending in -ealor. A big commission for someone...

I know some Scottish students who will find that most amusing

It's not in my musical world usually
but there's some fascinating stuff here , always good to read about stuff one doesn't know about

It looks like a goer, but not yet set in scheduling stone and certainly not for a while (the actual reburial won't be till next year). I won't say Watch This Space because you all have lives to get on with, but will let you know ASAP. Many thanks.

Browsing the website of the Plainsong and Medieval Music Society, I came across this:

                    PMMS Annual Conference
Faculty of Music, University of Oxford, 10 March 2012

...Matthew Cheung Salisbury, 'The Office of the Dead in Late Medieval England: Sources, Variants, Performance'...

So I emailed Dr Salisbury with a summary of this discussion, and this is his reply:

                    Dear Jean,

Thank you for your note. I am indeed interested both in the liturgical use of
Sarum (and its obsequies for the dead) and (appropriately enough) the reburial
of R III, to the extent that I have already contacted Leicester Cathedral about
this matter independently. I have been reassured my details are on file as a
potential consultant and IF the Dean and Chapter decide such repertoire may be
appropriate they may be in further contact with me. We have a reassuringly
substantial timescale for the moment, I understand, and if Catherine Bott (or
anyone else) wants to get in contact about the matter in the meantime, my
contact details are in the public domain.

Do let me know if there is anything further that I can offer.

                    Yours sincerely

                    Matthew Salisbury

                    Dr Matthew Cheung Salisbury
                    Lecturer in Music,
                    University College, Oxford OX1 4BH
