And the whole chorus has a zest and joyfulness that I found instantly convincing and infectious. I look forward to hearing more of this - and I suspect that this is a recording that I will be parting with money to include in my collection.
... ego autem. I think the cheapest at the moment is on amazon.fr -
so I'm additionally grateful to Micky for that steer
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
You're welcome, Cali...I didn't hear all of the chat, but Niquet made such a cheeky remark at one point to the lady presenter that I burst out laughing in the car. I think it must have thrown her quite a bit!

Just heard Gardiner's new recording of the earlier E flat version of the Bach Magnificat, along with its Christmas interpolations. But Hogwood got there first, with this vintage recording with the wonderful Christ Church Choir - which can now be had on Amazon for under £1!

Hogwood? (His name's not mentioned on the cover - only Simon Preston's.)

I think we're almost back in Purcell territory (last week's BaL): but in this case Hogwood is actually credited for the Nisi Dominus and Preston for the rest.
That JEG Bach I found frankly risible. 'Oooh! Look at me! Look how fast I can make them play!'
I might add 'and sing'. It sounded (at worst) like machine-gun fire, or (at best) as if generated by a synthesiser. I didn't like his earlier D major version either. I have it but never play it.
Hogwood was also playing organ accompaniment on all of the tracks of those Florilegium records, I believe. Certainly Preston takes the Magnificat at a much more agreeable pace than JEG, to these ears at least.
