The 30 CD Sony box seems like an excellent bargain to me with lots of complete recordings on offer. Star turn must be the Kuijkens/Leonhardt set of the Paris Quartets. I already have far too many Telemann CDs on my shelves, sadly no room for any more!

The 'Ein Feste Burg" discs from ricercar sounded absolutely gorgeous - but it's not cheap -

A highly entertaining episode. The subtleties know no bounds!

Will Alan Davey be tempted to play next year all ~~ 3000 compositions, I wonder?

The Pre-Proms composer slot is a feast of Baroque music with an odd condiment or two. The website must be the Mess of the Year.

Was I mistaken or did we get Ich Habe Genug twice in the programme (one Goene and one Iestyn)? Anyway I can't have genug of it personally. Moving on to Monteberdi's Vespers, I admire John Butt very much, and thought the solo bits we heard, especially tenor Nicholas Mulroy, were excellent. Not sure I would want to live with that very nearly OVPP chorus-work though, however 'authentic' it may be considered. It sounded like a lot of very English soloists to me, which of course it was.

The complete recording of Graun's 'Cleopatra e Cesare' from René Jacobs is well worth tracking down.

                          WOW !!!!

WHAT a voice, what a performer - and fantastic accompaniment too. The Handel Se pietà as good as I've ever heard, the Graun great too.

Many moons since I've been so seduced and enthralled by a recorded voice
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                          Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

And yet only ten moons since some of us here were enthusing about her previous, equally lovely, recording:

I've been an enthusiast since her Cardiff SotW appearance a couple of years ago (when the thick, dense, deaf, stupid, cretinous, cloth-eared bunch of philistine morons on the Judging panel chucked her out in Round Three-ish) - a great voice. If there is anything left in your soul to melt, then skip along to 38mins into this:

I was trying to remember who else had contributed besides pastoralguy (I remembered him, because I suggested he change his name to "Regulaguy").
