... yes, they liked Les fêtes de l’Hymen et de l’Amour (altho' noting that it was an "as live" from Versailles, with some rough and ready bits). I liked it too, very much. I'm getting it - and the Amadis, too...

Amadis
I don’t think what we heard was quite the best bit to see (hear) what this performance really was like. Watch this. Stupendous.
Concert donné le 5 juillet 2013 à l'Opéra Royal de Versailles - Les Talens lyriques - Christophe Rousset Amadis | Cyril AuvityOriane | Judith Van WanroijArca...
Incidentally, there is a staged version by Christie. Not sure when this was performed but it looks newish, though it looks rather gimmicky (I’ve only watched the prologue) .

Les fêtes de l'Hymen et de l'Amour
Now that the CD is out, I don’t think this will be here much longer: the entire live performance.
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
Sophie Yates……
I very much like her playing and enjoyed all her Early Music Show programmes but as others have said, I wasn’t terribly impressed by her selections today. And as for Hippolyte… What surprised me the most was that she thought it all made sense. When I watched it (streamed) I even thought the production was meant not to make sense. And as Caliban says, the music was rather mediocre, especially the chorus. Ah well…
If anyone is interested in more ‘authentic’ production, here’s one.
Rameau: Hippolyte et Aricie. Erato: 2564622917. Buy 2 DVD Videos online. Topi Lehtipuu (Hippolyte), Anne-Catherine Gillet (Aricie), Stéphane Degout (Thésée), Sarah Connolly (Phèdre), Jaël Azzaretti (L'Amour), Salomé Haller (Oenone), Marc Mauillon (Tisiphone / La Grande Prêtresse de Diane) Le Concert d’Astrée, Emmanuelle Haïm, Ivan Alexandre
Thésée and Phèdre are sung by the same singers as in the Glyndebourne production. They are rightly regal and magnificent here.
...and
There are very few technical hitches these days yet that rare thing had to hit Andrew’s comment on Jaroussky’s new CD. I was very much looking forward to hear what he would have to say about this recording. I wish some R3 insider would post here what he actually said.Last edited by doversoul1; 18-10-14, 19:04.

I think one of my posts has disappeared...no great loss to humankind. But I did mention that on this morning's CD Review the first half hour included much early music including Ah Gentle Jesu by Sheringham (a contemporary of Cornysh?) sung by The Hilliards. It was an original and striking piece, with much 2-part texture, and will apparently be the group's swansong piece at their final concert.
...about 24 minutes in.
BTW, loved the short extract (earlier) from Jarousky's latest CD, Pieta, all Vivaldi.

Cecilia Bartoli, I Barocchisti, Diego Fasolis
(more about this CD)
For the very first time Bartoli explores the Baroque musical treasures of Tsarist Russia with music from the court of three 18th century Tsaristas: Anna, Elizabeth and Catherine the Great.[…]

I can’t say I am a great fun of Cecilia Bartoli, but a few works of Russian Baroque (all instrumental) I heard on TTN were quite interesting.

I heard a bit of this new album earlier this evening. I had to rip the headphones from my ears. Her voice is one of my least favourite things in all music. I was going to start a thread wondering rhetorically if anyone actually likes that brand of chesty shrieking... but of course, seeing the 2 or 3 threads that have been here about her recordings, I know some people do. I literally can't bear to hear that voice - and can't understand all the critics fawning and falling over in adoration.

sounds good to me.
But critical fawning and general adorational falling over has no place in music, or anything else.
I am at a slight loss, Cals, to understand why, if you feel that way about her voice, you listened to her LP with headphones on?
Being nice to the neighbours?I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
I am not a number, I am a free man.
