Good for you, Dougie - yes, I heard the rave review about Justin Taylor on the France Musique 'En Piste' programme not so long ago. Though such a spring chicken, I believe he won the Bruges harpsichord contest. I must get hold of the disc myself - it's an interesting mixed programme with pieces by the Forqueray family and those written in tribute. The recorded sound is gorgeous.

      Remember this?

But why is this a new release?

      Release Date: 3rd Mar 2017

Are we to understand that a CD needs nearly a year to be noticed because it is by a group of women composers?

The Pygmalion disc is smashing...some of Rameau's very best pieces here, fabulously performed. A disc well worth getting.

Fabulously performed indeed and the selection of the music is brilliant.

I had forgotten the power of that wonderful aria 'Monstre affreux' from 'Dardanus'...terrific!

I exploring the first work on Saturday's RR enthusiastically - Franz Xaver Richter's Te Deum (not mentioned in your post above, dovers). It's fair to say I'm rather addicted to the first movement, which was the first extract played on the programme.

Happily, the disc is available on Qobuz. I know what AMcG means about the cavernous acoustic, but it seems to work for this piece. (Haven't yet sampled the accompanying symphony and an oboe concerto, to see how they fare.) For once with a 'marginalised' work, the soloists aren't a let-down: both very agreeable to listen to.

The vacation intern at R3 needs a clip round the ear though (or the computer a swift kick to the mainframe): the RR page illustrates references to the disc with photos of....

François-Xavier Roth - Franz Xaver Richter... well, they were close I suppose...

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I agree, Caliban....I thought the acoustic just perfect for such a choral work.

Richter's symphonies are also worth hearing, two CDs in good HIP performances are on Naxos.

This is rather nice. I might have though this was by JC Bach.

Thank you ds....this looks to be the same Finnish players who recorded the twelve symphonies for Naxos that I mentioned. I agree with you, very nice indeed. Something else for the shopping list!

I noticed that too, Cali! Naughty out of ten! I’ll be having a look at that plus those Sonatas as well.

Instantly taken with the extract from the new Ricercar Consort / Philippe Pierlot recording of Bach Cantatas played on Saturday (17/3/18):

Have been listening to the remainder of the disc on Qobuz - it's a treat, on every level, and includes some of Bach's best. Not to be missed, imho.

                              .

NB for Qobuz users, beware of their fallible search function. I began by searching "Pierlot Bach" and the disc was nowhere to be seen. Having learnt not to take 'no' for an answer from Qobuz, I searched instead for "Ricercar Pierlot", scanned the results - and there was the disc....
"...the isle is full of noises,
