The local HMV shop has seen the removal of over 90% of Naxos titles in last few days - I presume it now concentrates on its own labels as possibly having difficulty getting anything else on credit - to make up for sales it seems to have moved into clothing retail..
To return to Butehude - the Koopman rendition of BuxWV 247 (Aria :More Palantino) is I think my favourite in the harpsicord cds

Emma Kirkby was a guest on In Tune today. I tuned in at 6.30 and just caught the last few notes of Vivaldi but then they talked about EK’s new CD, Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu nostril with Purcell Quartet. Sean Raffety played a track with a remark ‘heart wrenching’. It was. Elin Manahan Thomas sounding almost like a treble. Absolutely beautiful: tender, genial, engaging as MickyD describes.

Here is the Chandos site. It doesn’t link for some reasons so you’ll have to copy and paste.

And here is HMV if you decide to buy it. (£13.25 vs. £9.99) or do you think we should support record companies?

Well, I take it all back - I popped into one of the HMV shops in Glasgow (not the biggest) & not only did they have Naxos CDs, they had the Ton Koopman CD of the sonatas. However, at £15 for 1 CD I decided to wait for the Naxos recordings.

Interested to hear about the new Kirkby CD, doversoul. I still cherish the 1980s Koopman version of Membra Jesu Nostri with all male voices - I cannot for the life of me think why it has never been re-released.
