this was ascetic, unshowy, fine tuning and voices / ensemble wedded to eschewing vibrato - hence the ensemble became more important than any individual voice.

I see on one of their latest CDs, Stile Antico are in association with David Wulstan, and the similarity between Stile's sound spectrum and the famous and much missed Clerkes of Oxenford of latter years is striking. eg the Missa Puer natus Est that I still have on LP sung by the Clerkes.

Both halls appear to have been full for their respective concerts, so I can't bemoan such a clash too much.
Still, I cannot quite understand why SJSS seems to have fallen out of favour for this repertoire, for which I've always thought it so well suited.
