    Charles Burney and Caldara

    Saturday
Catherine Bott presents a programme looking into the life and music of the Venetian born Baroque composer, Antonio Caldara.
Exploring the life and music of Venetian-born baroque composer Antonio Caldara.

    The playlist tells us:
From Missa Laetare: Sanctus; Benedictus; Agnus Dei; Dona nobis pacem
    Performers: Max Emanuel Cencic (soprano),
Max EC did play a skirt role in Artaserse but even so…

[ed] I see, it’s ‘treble’. Max EC in shorts not in skirt.

    Sunday
In July 1772 Dr Charles Burney set off on his second European journey to gather information for his proposed mighty publication of A History of Music. Lucie Skeaping interviews musician and publisher Ian Gammie about Burney's musical perambulations through Germany and The Netherlands, and chooses music by some of the composers he met along the way, including Gluck, Hasse and Quantz.http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00c8p1m

Both repeat but both worth (re) listening.

    Dear Catherine
Would you tell us about James Bowman’s Farewell Concert in Paris? I understand that you were there, or have I got this wrong? Does Paris audience appreciate gala concerts like this (I am thinking about Une Fete Baroque, that Emmanuelle Haïm’s anniversary concert) more than London audience does?
