Orfeo looks more like a Roman Senator but the music is splendid.

No subtitle but here’s the libretto

Thanks DS, I'd not seen that. It's a very tasteful production, even the musicians in period dress. With Savall at the helm and his family on stage the music is, as you say, first rate. I've watched the first 30mins which seemed to pass in 5mins.

Back to Gluck for a moment, there are various productions of "Alceste" on youtube as well as this work which I don't know at all:

        Iphigénie en Tauride (Christie) http://youtu.be/8J9LSKGVPUc

There's quite a lot of Handel on youtube, with productions that range from grotesque or indifferent to very good. Two that popped up in last few months and weeks which I thought were quite watchable are:

        Handel's opera Semele

        Played and performed by:
Conductor -Musikalische Leitung : William Christie.
Orchestra "La Scintilla" der Oper Zürich
        Scenography -Inszenierung : Robert Carsen

        Semele : Cecilia Bartoli .
        Jupiter : Charles Workman
        Juno : Birgit Remmert
        Ino : Liliana Nikititeanu
        Cadmus/somus : Anton Scharinger
        Athamas: Thomas Michael Allen
        Iris : Isabel Rey

George Frideric Handel - Tamerlano - Opera Complete - English Subtitles ( in HD)

        Cast:
        Tamerlano - Monica Bacelli
        Bajazet - Thomas Randle
        Andronicus - Graham Pushee
        Irene - Anna Bonitatibus
        Asteria - Elisabeth Norberg-Schulz
        Leone - Antonio Abete

OK, it's not opera but a fairly rare performance of Handel's oratorio "Susanna" is worth a mention:

        30th Festival of Baroque Music in Ambronay(France) - 2009

        Date: 12 September 2009
        Genre: Oratorio in 3 Acts
        Compositor: Georg Friedrich Haendel (1685-1759)
        Orchestra: Les Arts Florissants
        Director: William Christie
        Language: English with french subtitles

        Susanna: Sophie Karthauser, soprano;
        Joacim: Max Emanuel Cencic, counter-tenor;
        Chelsias: Maarten Koningsberger, baritone.

Thank you. No I have not yet seen L'Olimpiade. It looks good. As for Orlando Furioso, there was a concert performance last year. Here is the review by our own Il Grande Inquisitor.

Do you think we should shift ourselves to the EMS Board? There are a plenty of goodies but these may be of limited () interest.

Moved - for the benefit of the early music enthusiasts.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

                    Thank you, ff.

And here is another. It’s a concert performance but (I think) it is rather good.
