    Naughty!

Actually, did anyone hear this morning's Mark Steel's in Town? He was in Wigan (Formby's birth town) and mentioned how, when he were told by the authorities that he couldn't perform to black audiences. George, bless 'im, therefore did 20 free gigs exclusively for black audiences. When a government heavy came to threaten him for his "perverted activities", Beryl (Mrs Formby) simply told him to "p*ss off, you horrible little man!"

My respect for the annoying ukelele-playing double-entendriste multiplied many dozens-fold!

This was in South Africa just before apartheid started as official goverment policy apparently. I think Beryl & George deserve a medal for facing them down

Byd bach yn wir!! Tybed rhywle yn agos i B&Q neu'r Coleg Technegol? Mae'r hen drefi wedi newid dros y flynyddoedd.

Cefais fy ngeni yn New Broughton ger Wrecsam. Roedd fy modryb, chwaer fy Mam, yn byw yna. Roedd y modryb hon yn Mam i Arthur Davies a oedd yn aelod o Gwmni Opera Cymru flynyddoedd yn ol. Aeth Arthur a'i brawd Glyn i ysgol Grove Park yn Wrecsam. Daeth Mam fy nhad o Pentre Broughton!

Roedd fy nheulu'n byw yn pentref Treuddyn [pentref wreiddiol yr Urdd!] ac eis i'r ysgol ramadeg yn Yr Wyddgrug. Wedyn i'r prifysgol ac wedyn dros y Clawdd am waith fel pawb arall!! 'Does 'na ddim cyfle yma i cadw'r hen iaith yn fyw ond trwy'r we gyda hen gyfeillion o'r ysgol sy'n dal yn byw yn yr ardal!

Nos da nawr! Cysgwch yn dawel.

…ahem… if I am allowed to revert to more…common language

This is still available. I can’t say the BBC Singers are my first choice for Bach but Catherine Bott places the music into an interesting historical context.

                          Sunday Concert: 2.00
…Catherine Bott presents a programme of baroque choral, instrumental and organ music from the cities of the great commercial, economic and trading partnership known as the Hanseatic League. Recorded in St Giles' Church, Cripplegate, London

                          The works performed are by:
Samuel Scheidt, Buxtehude, John Blow, J H Roman, Georg Friedrich Kauffman, J P Sweelinck (plus Bach and Telemann).

Baroque choral, instrumental and organ music recorded at the 2012 City of London Festival.
