I think this is "TRÄNEN GELACHT" from Tage Alter Musik in Herne 2022, if so, it was also broadcast on WDR3 11/11/2022 & the listing included a photo of La Florida Capella...

DeepL (thanks MickyD) translates the WDR3 listing (which is based on the Festival program) as:

Not sure what Alpenglow is, exactly, but I do remember breakfast cereal adverts with a radioactive glow from my youth

N.B. WPMT translates the title as "Tears of Laughter, Laughter Through Tears" and gives a list of pieces that matches TTN's.
"Alpenglow is an optical phenomenon..." facilitated by apres-ski imbibing perhaps?

Thanks ooo, an interesting article & I'll happily drink to that as being an explanation.

Can any of the forum's German linguists give a more colloquial English translation for "... und mit Alpenglühen begegnet"?

Not offhand, but if you google Alpengluehen Recipe you'll find something to help you 'drink to that'.

          Encounter[begegnet] the(aforementioned) Alpine glow at a guess?
          Can't help thinking that
          grüblerischer Melancholie,
          sounds messy rather than brooding...

You have to take the whole phrase with the final verb, which attaches to all the feeling-words:

...stellt das Programm Solokantaten Antonio Cesti vor, der Liebeskummer mit grüblerischer Melancholie, Sarkasmus, Galgenhumor und mit Alpenglühen begegnet.

... the programme presents solo cantatas of Antonio Cesti, who meets love-sickness with thoughtful melancholy, sarcasm, gallows humour and Alpenglow.

I guess you had to be there...!

(BTW I have seen Alpenglow many times: it is very beautiful, and lasts only a few minutes or even seconds.)

Thanks kernelbogey, oddoneout & LMcD- that's helped. I think you're right kb, you had to be there. From the images online it does look very spectacular.

I've just noticed that the WDR3 2022 broadcast is still available to listen to - perhaps presenter Sabine Radermacher explained more?
Or Danielle Jalowiecka will, tonight on TTN?

'begegnet' might also be translated as 'faces', 'confronts', 'counters' or 'treats'.

Perhaps it will appear later? A sort of denuement - Après-ski Twiglet of the Gods?

I listened to parts of the WDR3 broadcast. I think Sabine Radermacher says, ~19:56, that Marian Polin found a hand-written note in a library in Bolgna, and then Polin talks about the Alpi nevose dure (Antonio Cesti). That must be the mysterious Alpenglow.

I've emailed WDR in the hope of being offered an 'official' explanation, or at least a helpful hint!

                        Or not?

                        Also in reply to LMcD

                        More here
The summaries of three cantatas may give an impression of what they are about. Alpi nevose e dure: "The classical theme of unrequited love is treated in the first person in this short cantata. The protagonist asks the Alps to hide the blinding, disturbing sun from him (a metaphor for the beloved) and to show him the way to death, which is the only way to free him from his torment."

Not to be confused with light pollution from the Great Wen?

The Forum is riddled with rabbit holes!

No apologies needed AuntD as far as I'm concerned. Rabbit holes aren't always wasted journeys, and in any case no-one forced me underground!
