Sunday's EMS is a must to LA if you like viol music. Three 'contemporary' pieces by young composers were played...an unusual twist for an EARLY music show; but for me the outstanding item was the first, a 6-part In Nomine by William Lawes. What extraordinarily original and daring harmonic alleyways he dived down. And how sad that he, fighting for the Royalists, met his end via a Parliamentarian bullet.
