Thanks for flagging this one up, Doversoul. I cherish my long-deleted set of Louis Couperin from Davitt Moroney, recorded on some wonderful instruments. Interesting that the new complete set by Richard Egarr is not featuring on the programme - I'd be interested to hear his performances.

Micky - yes, I too cherish the Davitt Moroney... I also have the Blandine Verlet, which I now find a bit too lush and over-resonant. Can I really justify the Egarr too? Can I??

And thanks for this - on iPlayer now:

Very interesting in conjunction with this week's COTW on Victoria.

Great minds think alike, Vinteuil! And as Amazon France currently has the new 4CD Egarr set up for grabs at just 19 euros, I think I might just be tempted..... (I don't have the Verlet version, but I do have one of her discs of François Couperin and am not so keen on it all these years later).

Micky - my visit to amazon.fr had the Egarr at 19 euros for the MP download - the CDs unavailable

But anyway, at the moment I am being seduced by Christophe Rousset: and what a lovely instrument he has! - and I may well decide to seek out his 2 CD set...

Quick, Vinteuil - the CDs are indeed available for 19 euros, and here's the link:

I didn't know about the Rousset - he sometimes escapes my view these days, recording for the lesser known labels. What instrument is he playing on?

Micky - many thanks for that! Don't know why my search on amazon.fr for egarr couperin didn't find it...

The Rousset on the EM Show I found very attractive - he plays a 1658 Louis Denis, the sound of which he described as 'greener' in contrast to the 'well-rounded bordeaux' colour of the later harpsichords he has used elsewhere - for me it was a beautifully fresh and crisp sound.

I can see I will end up with both sets

thanks again. even with postage the amaz.fr will be much cheaper than amaz.uk...

Impressive that you can type so accurately at the same time, vints...

Hope you two boys will be very happy together this long bank holiday weekend

*Decides not to pursue the instrument - fingerwork route. We do miss the AA thread sometimes, though, don't we??? *
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                  Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Oh, Caliban, do behave, you saucepot!

Vinteuil, I'm currently listening to the EMS and yes, Rousset's instrument does indeed sound most attractive. I also liked the Van Asperen at the beginning of the show - again, I didn't know he had recorded any Louis Couperin.
