I remember going to a concert in the Purcell Room many moons ago given by Michael and Doreen Muskett.. probably one of the most esoteric programmes I've ever been to. The hall was full of open toed sandal and brown rice types...funny how the image of early music goers has changed so much over the years.

Yes indeed, and doesn't it throw a light on the concept of 'classical' music? This was on Radio 3 and the participants have cut-glass , upper-midddle accents, a long way from Rambling Sid Rumpo. Your hippies may not have tolerated Elgar or Handel, so were they aware they were listening to 'classical' music then? How old does popular dance music need to be before it becomes 'classical' and gets edited editions on library shelves? Questions David Munrow might have explored had he lived.

A sweet sounding instrument cf the Scottish variety. I wonder if our current monarch will maintain the early morning piper tradition beloved of his mother?
The musette reminded me of the Northumbrian pipes.

I believe Northumbrian pipes were used in this vintage logo for Tyne Tees Television in the 1970s...composed by Steve Race, if I remember correctly.

Fanfare tastic. This was recorded from a VHS tape held in Transdiffusion's Tyne Tees archive. For more on Tyne Tees from the Transdiffusion Broadcasting Syst...
