Re Henry Stuart - absolutely brilliant.

Tristram Hunt explores the musical responses to the death of Prince Henry, son of James I.

A historical discussion of the events following the death of Henry Stuart aged 18 in 1611.

Unmissable. For me, one of the best radio programmes of the past years.

Music includes Weelkes' "When David heard" - one of the finest 17thC choral works written - and other superb musical stuff, as well a brilliantly-researched history and comment from a few experts. A shame it couldn't be on TV, so that the pictures could be seen too.

Those who enjoy this sort of programme, do try to LA - I promise you won't be disappointed!

A repeat of the programme first broadcast last September I think.

Yes it was, panjandrum. I missed it then.

Btw I'm hoping FF will correct my error in the title... which she has now done, for which many thanks!

I enjoyed it very much when it was first broadcast but I wish they would publish the list of music played. And Simon, I think it is much better on the radio, as the music would have become just a pretty background sound on the TV.

        I shall definitely listen again.

I hadn't thought of that, ds - good point.

re. the music - I'll LA and try to note it down, though there was some I didn't know.

Shameless plug, but this is the CD that provided most (possibly all) of the music for the program, and it was recorded in conjunction with the radio show. http://www.amazon.co.uk/Dialogues-So.../dp/B003WG31OQ
