Solo violin music - Rachel Podger

Violinist Rachel Podger gives a solo recital as part of this year's York Early Music Festival, including Biber's Passacaglia, a sonata by Tartini and Bach's Partita in D minor.

A wonderful player. In the Bach Partita...and some other pieces....I just wondered if the rubato was taken a wee bit too far? Rachel is of course the expert, and a little flexibility in tempo and phrasing is just fine. But just occasionally...especially in Bach....I lost track of the pulse.

I was amused by the comment that Tartini's sonatas were written with basso continuo but that he sometimes played them 'solo', as did RP in this programme. I wonder where that bit of scholarship came from?
