    The Gibbons Clan

An exploration of the lives and music of a musical C17th dynasty - the Gibbons family.

Should hold some interest for aficionados of The Choir. But there was quite a bit of keyboard music and viol music too.

Orlando Gibbons came from a very musical family – his father was a member of the Oxford Waits, two of his brothers were also composers, and his son entered into the profession too. Lucie Skeaping explores the lives and music of this 17th-century musical dynasty

    This programme's a repeat, BTW.

Delightful programme (which I must have missed first time around).

The highlight for me: the gorgeous Fantasy-Suite by Pepys’s mate Christopher Gibbons, which was new to me (I’ve added the AAM/Egarr recording from which it was taken to the queue on Qobuz for a good listen)
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Yes, a lovely programme, and I agree about the C. Gibbons piece.

Is it just me or is this episode not on the 'Available Now' bit of the EMS website?

It's on the fourth page for some reason.

The program page also wrongly attributes the "Hosanna, to the Son of David" they played to King's Cambridge when it's actually by Winchester under David Hill. I presume these things are auto-generated.

How strange. Are they ordered by first broadcast date?
It's very confusing (& disappointing) having the heavily edited "podcast" versions included in the list.
Wish they'd dig further back into the archives - I'd love to hear that 2004 EMS about the Anna Magdalena notebook again...

Yes, those podcast versions are just silly...fading music in and out and never getting a complete performance.

Well, I know for a fact that Beeb personnel have a peek at The Forum every so often. So you may be lucky, especially as EMS is never reluctant to do a repeat!

                That's good news.
Maybe I'll try posting a "Repeat 2004 Anna Magdalena notebook EMS" topics each week
Or bemoan the lack of Catherine Bott...
