    Feldman, Crumb and Cage...

    ....on Tuesday’s R3 In Concert.

Cédric Tiberghien performs works by Beethoven and 20th-century American experimentalists.

    Interleaved with Beethoven.

Oops. Wrong thread. Doing it on teeny iPhone in France, so unable to unscramble. Help anyone?

Full marks to Cédric Tiberghien for his enterprising and satisfying programming. The early Beethoven variations provided excellent contrasts to the experimental Twentieth century American pieces. Knowing Messaien's Sept haïkaï ,I was surprised by Cage's 7 Haiku but Cage's plural may be better Japanese!

Given that we must expect a surfeit of Beethoven in this anniversary year, it was great to have the master's juvenilia leavened by such unusual yeast.

Especially intriguing, given Cage's very negative appraisal of Beethoven and the latter's role in musical development.

Even as a confirmed HIPster, I was stunned to see these names on the Early Music thread!
