Full marks to Cédric Tiberghien for his enterprising and satisfying programming. The early Beethoven variations provided excellent contrasts to the experimental Twentieth century American pieces. Knowing Messaien's Sept haïkaï ,I was surprised by Cage's 7 Haiku but Cage's plural may be better Japanese!

Given that we must expect a surfeit of Beethoven in this anniversary year, it was great to have the master's juvenilia leavened by such unusual yeast.
