I was simply alluding to the 'rule' that the "sh" pronunciation does not apply if the following vowel is "a", as in "Scarlatti", rather than "e" or "i".

Yes, the question mark following "Scarlatti" was open to ambiguous interpretation. It could be seen as questioning "why not", rather than as an illustration.
