    Viennese Whirls: EMS 29 December

Lucie Skeaping joins in the New Year festivities from Vienna with a programme looking at the city's early musical history, including works by the 13th-century minnesinger Neidhart von Reuental along with composers from Ludwig Senfl and Heinrich Isaac all the way to Fux, Schmelzer and Haydn.

I apologise for using a post for a personal matter but I have decided to leave the forum in order to spend more time on family natters. Nothing tragic. It’s just a natural progression of a cooperative life. I can’t tell you how much I enjoyed being a member of this unapologetically idiosyncratic forum. Many, many thanks everyone.

    With my very best wishes

Doversoul, choosing to ignore your final stricture () I think everyone reading this will be vary sad indeed about your leaving, though equally in awe of all that you have done for Early Music on The Forum.
May I say a HUGE THANK-YOU for all your efforts in combing the R3 schedules for Early Music content? It has been a truly Herculean task! I for one have listened to so many of the links you have posted up and which I might otherwise have missed. I'm not sure what we're going to do without you!

May I send you and your family every good wish....and there's really no need to leave The Forum! Many are passive watchers and either do not post at all or just chip in occasionally.

A very Happy New Year dovers, and a peaceful [if not total?] retirement .

Seconded here - I would have missed so many excellent early music programmes had it not been for dovers flagging them up. I feel increasingly more in the HIP minority on here now!

Well, I will sorely miss your "flag ups" and links to YouTube offerings, not to mention keeping me on track from time to time in this mysterious world of Early Music.

        Many thanks, Doversoul!

            .

... I am sad to hear that you are leaving us. Your contributions to and insights concerning the Early Music world have been one of the many joys of this forum, and I shall miss them.

I hope that the years ahead are full of good things for you - music to be listened to, gardens to nurture and garden pests to worry about...

            with all very best wishes

Thank you very much for all your kind words. They will always brighten and warm my heart along with the music of Vivaldi and Telemann (and many other).

Today's programme was a gentle chronological whirl from composers of the 14th to 18th centuries. I don't think any of the composers represented could be said to have an especially 'Viennese' style, if indeed there was such a thing. So maybe have a listen on New Year's day as an antidote to the usual thing which I for one avoid at all costs!

Looking to the future of the Early Music sub-forum, I invite anyone to post up things of interest. 'Early Music' seems to embrace anything from the year dot to the galante, so there should be no shortage of material.
