I will have to catch up with this last episode, but I too have really enjoyed the series so far.

Of course it wouldn't have been possible to mention everything in the HIP world, but I do think that the omission of Collegium Aureum was regrettable. They weren't 100% HIP, but in the early days, their recordings were an important step in the history of period bands...working with such illustrious names as Paul Badura-Skoda, Gustav Leonhardt and Barthold Kuijken. Their LPs were always eagerly snapped up by me, and their 1973 recording of Bach's Christmas Oratorio still pretty much tops my list of the versions available.

I am a simple soul. Anything about early music pleases me.

I would liked to have heard more about how early music came to be performed but I suppose the Big Names are the bread & butter for the world of classical music which, I hope, will keep the music in fringes and byways going. Definitely one of the best programmes on Radio 3 this year.

I thought this sounded extraordinary. It made me think of the various comments made about the sound of harpsichord.

              That is wonderful isn't it?
Played on the 1820 Brodmann Fortepiano Schiff used for the two recent ECM Schubert albums, the top two in the list here....
Qobuz is the world leader in 24-bit Hi-Res downloads, offering more than 100 million tracks for streaming in unequalled sound quality 24-Bit Hi-Res

The notes (including Schiff's own comments ("Confessions of a Convert" ) go into great detail about the instrument....Seek out and enjoy!
