La Serenissima at 25: EMS 10 November

Just returned from La Serenissima. The same string ensemble going from church to church churning out the same Vivaldi concertos for tourists. Rather depressing. Plus the occasional British school choir mounting a concert during their half term tour. You might get to an expensive performance at La Fenice before the Mafia burns it down again. However, the home team (sounded like a professional octet) at San Marco sang Palestrina from the north organ gallery with great expertise at 10.30 Mass on Sunday morning. Even at this time of year, it’s only worth wandering around before 8am or after 11pm if you don’t wish to be barged into. And yet... what a uniquely inspiring and beauteous place.

I hope you enjoyed the programme more than some of the music you heard on your trip. There were many lovely pieces of music and I thought the talk was very interesting. If you like this sort of things, that isLast edited by doversoul1; 10-11-19, 21:15.

EMS La Serenissima at 25 Sunday 10 November
Just wanted to recommend it as a particularly informative episode of EMS, particularly for me the snippets on instruments.
Hope it's of use to someone. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m000b6f9Last edited by ferneyhoughgeliebte; 05-12-19, 10:40.
