A very enjoyable programme. Mandolin sounds surprisingly substantial, lots of interesting bits of information (Charles Avison in Tristram Shandy etc.), and Simon Heighes in his element (he usually in on this programme).

As far as I can deduce from the internet they use modern instruments with period bows. Most items brought up on a search seem to relate to 2012-3, so things may have changed. I am not clever enough to answer the question just by listening, I'm afraid.
