    Huelgas Ensemble: EML 5 August

The Huelgas Ensemble performs a range of polyphony from England, France, Spain, Italy, Poland and Croatia from as long ago as the 11th Century, including pieces from the Winchester Troper and music by Palestrina, LeJeune, Skjavetic, de Rore, Soriano, Rossi, Klabon and Ponce in a concert from the 2018 Resonanzen Festival in Vienna.
The Huelgas Ensemble sings a range of European polyphony from across 700 years.

2 hours long! I've often thought that EML was too short.

That was a bit bizarre, wasn’t it? There was an hour slot where nothing had been scheduled. Is this one of the Proms side effects? Not that I am complaining. It was a great bonus.

Agreed, but totally weird. Anything said about it on air? I had to leave before the end.

iplayer shows the length of the programme as 2.02.59. The actual EML finished as usual and nothing was said about the ‘missing’ programme. Ah, the programme page shows 2hrs. And last week’s EML was supposed to have lasted one hour and 30 minutes. It looks the same this week: 2 hrs Nothing after EML until 00.00 Sunday. Very odd.

Sorry, but what is so odd. It just so happened that this particular EML was scheduled to last 2 hours and that's how long it lasted. The extra couple of minutes on the iPlayer are just the early start and overrun of the file. Sometines it gets edited (topped and tailed) later. Or are you treating with something else? Perhaps the Vivaldi used to fill the last around 25 minutes of EML.

Last week’s EML is (I’m listening to it now) near 120 minutes long but this week’s EML was definitely a 60-minute programme. Programmes often go on longer but 60 minutes extra for what is meant to be one-hour programme seems to be a bit odd to me. We had Glory of Polyphony and Night Music after EML before the Proms started. Next week’s programme seems to last 2 hours. Ah well, I won’t complain.

I still fail to grasp where you get "but this week’s EML was definitely a 60-minute programme" from. The online schedule shows a 2-hour slot. Is this a Radio Times matter, perhaos?

Radio Times (printed edition) has it as two hours (10.00 to 12.00)

Well, Hannah French concluded the programme at approx. 60 minutes and an announcer took over (unless I dreamed it).

Right. Now I get it. When I first checked the iPlayer offering I found the Huelgas contribution continuing until around 95 minutes into what was labelled as "Early Music Late". Then followed the Vivaldi 'preview' of next week's EML. Checking back to approximately 1 hour into the file, I now find the transition you refer to. Currious indeed. The 2 hour slot was planned but they only made a 1 hour edit from the Huelgas Ensemble's concert, filling up with more Huelgas, and the Vivaldi, from discs. Possibly a case of the producer(s) following the Marion Mitchell Morrison advice of "never appologise".

Apart from R3’s messy housework, did anyone enjoyed the programme? I did very much.

Yes, I'm really enjoying it, thanks; looking forward to the fillers.

According to this page https://konzerthaus.at/abonnement/id/2449#ev55515 , it looks to be the whole concert (sans dapper PVN photo).

                              I might have recorded this.
