I cannot resist commenting on the great coincidence for me of the appearance in successive new threads of York and Leipzig, two important stations in my long-past youth. I did a Post Grad Teaching Cert at York in 1971-72 and alongside our course at the Language Teaching Centre we fitted in a lot of musical events both in the city and in the Music Dept. The University had links with Leipzig University and each year a couple of graduate linguists had the chance to go over to Leipzig University for a year to teach English. I went and had a great time. I met the woman who became my wife (complicated! - another story) and the music making in the city was a marvellous experience, with frequent visits to the Gewandhaus and Thomaskirche. I even gave some English lessons in the vestry of that church to the Thomasorganist, Hannes Kästner.

It was interesting to hear the two treble soloists, very different (to my ears that is) from the sound of English cathedral treble we are used.
