    Vecchio's L'Amfiparnasso: EMS 24 June

Robert Hollingworth looks at Orazio Vecchi's madrigal comedy L'Amfiparnaso which was premiered in Modena in in 1594. It's a particular form of musical theatre that flourished briefly in Italy, just before the dawn of opera, combining music and commedia dell'arte, the down-to-earth improvised street comedy of the time.

I didn’t realise that Mr Hollingworth was a Harry Potter lookalike.

Great fun, esp. the Simon Callow intros and RH's accents.

It was and very informative too. I thought it was decent (and professional) of RH to include the recordings other than that of I Fagiolini. He could have just used this:
Vecchi: L'Amfiparnaso. Chandos: CHDVD5029. Buy DVD Video online. Simon Callow (narrator) I Fagiolini, Robert Hollingworth

          Definitely worth listening to.

I thought that was a brilliant EMS ! Loved Hollingworth's slightly naughty presentation (e.g. translating 'applauso di mano' as 'manual stimulation'). Absolutely no sense of being 'addressed' or talked down to. And yes, quite surprised he included some old Deller Consort recordings. Clearly his own I Fagiolini was delighting the audience.
