Gawain has just released a disc of music from the Hanseatic cities with his ECHO Ensemble.

I remember this happening in one or two other EMS - it drives me insane and hope it isn't going to become a habit. The music should speak for itself.

I've noticed this previously, but it seemed particularly obvious in this programme. I get the feeling it's an alternative to chopping the piece short when it's too long to fit the time available, but I do hope it doesn't continue, as it is indeed irritating - and frustrating. A pity if one of the few 'proper' programmes remaining on R3 becomes a source of annoyance instead of interest and pleasure.
