    Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677) 23-27 April

This week Donald Macleod explores the life and music of Barbara Strozzi. She was one of the most important composers of Italian cantatas in the seventeenth century […]

A very welcome repeat although it doesn’t make me feel better about the loss of Early Music Late.

    Welcome indeed.

But the Bellini Donald MacLeod has just mentioned was stolen from the church of the Madonna dell'Orto in Cannareggio in 1993! Was the original broadcast really so long ago?

I was thrilled by the voice of Maria Cristina Kiehr in the last item in the programme (even over the car's engine noise!). What a beautiful voice.

Thanks - the theft must have passed him by, then.

Or he was fooled by the photograph they put in its place.

                  Barbara Strozzi repeat on CotW

...and they can't repeat it often enough for me! A terrific composer, illustrated by some wonderful examples. My favourite today was María Cristina Kiehr with ensemble Concerto Soave.

...but not quite the last. This one?

Nascente Maria, Op 5 No 12

Singer: María Cristina Kiehr. Ensemble: Concerto Soave

Sorry if any misunderstanding. Ms Kiehr was in final item on Monday's programme.. Nascente Maria was today (Tuesday).

Should this thread be merged with Dovers'?

But I suppose the point was to have it on the Early Music board as well?

I'll put a short post on CotW to let people know Strozzi is being discussed here.
