    Superb Rameau documentary.

This wonderful new documentary aired recently on Arte. I was lucky enough to attend a preview of it in the presence of the director, to whom the audience were able to ask questions. It won't be easy for those who don't understand French, but the specially recorded extensive musical excerpts are superb, with contributions from the likes of Christophe Rousset and the group Pygmalion. I love the idea of using an actor playing the part of the composer in his studio - and the actor in question bears an uncanny resemblance! We even learn that Rameau was responsible for writing the popular song 'Frère Jacques'. Do give it a try, it's well worth watching.

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Thanks Micky, I will certainly take a look at that. Arte is of course one of the finest things that TV broadcasting has to offer.

Indeed it is, Richard. The director, Olivier Simmonet, has just made a similar film about Grétry and he is due to preview it again here in Arles in a couple of weeks time. Sadly I can't be there. But I guess it will be on Arte before long. Is it possible to receive Arte in the UK?

I have no idea. I used to look at it often when I lived in the Netherlands and Germany; now I'm in Serbia I have to take what's available online.
