    Goldberg Variations,: EML18 September

Bach's Goldberg Variations played by pianist Christian Ihle Hadland recorded at a concert given in May in Haakon Hall, Bergen as part of this year's Bergen Festival

Presented by Simon Heighes 18 September

    JS Bach (1685-1750)
    Goldberg Variations, BWV 988
    Christian Ihle Hadland, piano

One of the pinnacles of the piano repertoire, Johann Sebastian Bach's Goldberg Variations present technical and interpretative challenges of the highest order. The piece describes a perfect arch of thirty variations, beginning and ending with a beautifully simple aria.

But ... this is supposed to be the "showcase" programme for Early Music performances: what in blazes is a modern piano performance doing here?
