And so were whales of course. I don't think anyone's claiming that this is the first melody that ever existed but that it's the oldest one that survives in notated form. Actually, maybe the Daily Mail is claiming this, but I won't sully my computer by visiting its website - more information can be found here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hurrian_songs .
