    Can't stop listening to this!!

Wonderful music, wonderful playing and choral singing, truly excellent soloists, and an addictively good recording in the Chapelle Royale at Versailles...

Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

I listened to the samples when it was first listed at Presto Classical, at the end of last year IIRC. It slipped my mind until now. I really ought look for longer extracts.

I do have the Raphaël Pichon, Ensemble Pygmalion of JS Bach: Missæ Breves complete recordings BWV 232-236 on Alpha.

While several one-to-a-part readings can bring a chamber-like intimacy, you get the best of all worlds here: red-blooded warmth, intense coloration, grandeur and crackling vigour and not a scintilla of mannered-ness...this is a Bach project of the highest calibre.” Gramophone Magazine, March 2014"

That's not hype, and the 3 CD set includes the Mass in B minor in its original ‘brief’ version of 1733. A couple of tasters:

Another good find by Rumpole - obviously had to stop listening to watch KD on Strictly but it sounds quite wonderful ..... Did you get it on Apple Music m'lord or on real sale or return?
I am sure there will be lots of requests generated to CBH for Bach before 7 .......

Hang on... She gets to partner Anton!

For all KD's faults, she does have nice legs, and I think she might turn out to be a good dancer.

So she gets my grudging support.

Are you ready for her, Anton?

I seriously think, if ff will allow it, we need a KD On Strictly thread rather than trashing Rumpole's thread.

For a video performance of Bach with smallish forces, I think this is excellent:
Latvian Radio Choir Pregardien - St John Passion.

              (music starts after 5 minutes)

I haven't yet worked out what it is.

                What is it?!

Very good question, anton. It's been a classic deployment of Apple Music. I must have listened 5 times so far.

However I'm thinking of investing in the CD as a gift for recently bereaved musical friends.

I have no trouble with a KD based tangent, anton. I had a few seconds of her on my recorded 'Proms Extra' but I deleted it without watching having seen the gang on her sofa. I'd forgotten she was also on 'the other side'. Her mum must be very proud.

Agreed and apologies. But I wouldn't want to be the one to start it

Ah, no - beg yer pardon; it's a detail from Turner's Death on a Pale Horse:
