Sara Mingardo Live from Wigmore Hall: 11 May 1.00pm

    This should be good:

    Claudio Monteverdi:
    Quel sguardo sdegnosetto
    Lamento d'Arianna (Lasciatemi morire)
Voglio di vita uscir, voglio che cadano

    Andrea Falconieri:
    Vezzosette e care pupillette
    Non più d'amore

    Alessandro Piccinini:
    Toccata XX
Aria di sarabanda in varie partite
    Giacomo Carissimi:
Deh memoria e che più chiedi?

    Barbara Strozzi:
    L'Eraclito amoroso
La, sol, fa, mi, re, do

    Sara Mingardo, contralto
    Ivano Zanenghi, theorbo
    Giorgio Dal Monte, harpsichord.

I earmarked this a while ago and being a huge Mingardo fan I won't be missing this chance of seeing her live. Tickets are still available (but booked just in case) and I will be setting off about 9.30 am tomorrow morning on a slightly mad bus-train-bus trip from N. Wilts to Wigmore Street.

      Noted doversoul, thank you.
See you there gurnemanz. (ha ha) I wish I could.
I'll be lucky to HEAR the programme tomorrow if I'm back from hospital after cataract treatment in the morning.

It was a great treat to hear a live concert of early Baroque songs and instrumental works.

The harpsichord sounded rather twangy but it was probably just the transmission and not the playing. Did the presenter (S M-P) tell us that contralto, especially natural contralto was a very rare thing? I don’t know about falsetto contralto but there are many excellent altos/contraltos if she just looks into the recent Baroque CD releases.

Never mind. It was a most enjoyable concert.

Padraig, I hope all went well with your i.

I am happy to say, doversoul, that the surgery was successful. The improvement was immediately noticeable and I look forward to the second op soon - on the NHS and not Private Eye.

I caught most of the LTC and I was glad to reacquaint myself with the contralto Sara Mingardo in recital. I shall indeed be listening to the repeat. I loved those last three items.

Yes, they (the last three items) were wonderful, weren’t they?

Very glad I made the effort to go to Wigmore. Her purity of tone and unique vocal range made for a most rewarding experience.

PS I got there an hour early and wandered down to All Saints, Margaret Street, a marvellous example of exuberant Victorian Gothic which I've been mean to check out for years. Well worth a detour ...
