    We are a civilised nation!

The World at One was tedious, obsessed mainly by the Tory Party Conference and the peccadilloes of one such Tory. But then, right at the end (43 mins 30 sec in) we got, apropos of nothing, a piece of choral music (Almeida Ensemble?) with the English Cornetts and Sackbutts playing a piece of 500-year-old-music from the bowels of the British Library.

Maybe a quite simple piece, but how amazing.

Does anyone know more about it?

Analysis of current affairs reports, presented by Martha Kearney.

Sounds suspiciously like some Hermannesque Martian music to me.

    It's Alamire, by the way:

ardcarp did you intend your link to lead to CD Review BAL 'The Planets'?
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

No, I don't think so. It was what was on his clipboard from the previous post
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

Another extract was sung (very beautifully) by the Alamire ensemble just before 0830 on Breakfast today.
