The Original Girl Power (!?) on The Early Music Show: Sunday 27 March

Catherine Bott presents a programme of music and the texts written by the trobairitz, a small group of female troubadours. Very little of their works has survived, mainly the poetry, and there is only one extant song with both the text and music written by Comtessa de Dia, who was one of the most celebrated of the trobairitz. Catherine Bott explores some of the text settings and considers the differences between their music and poetry and that of the male troubadours. During the programme, Catherine also meets the crime writer Sara Paretsky whose latest novel has taken inspiration from the works of the trobairitz. Music in the programme includes recordings by Sinfonye, Hesperion XX and Sequentia.http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b00zt5t6

I’ll be very interested in as I know nothing about this music.

While I am at it, this week’s midnight repeat is about music in paintings. You’d be (I was) surprised what those who have eyes and ears can hear.

    Caravaggio and Music
Catherine Bott and Andrew Graham-Dixon discuss musical references in Caravaggio's work.

Do listen on listen again if you missed it. It was a fascinating programme. Amazing music that tags at some distant musical memory. Catherine Bott’s fabulous performance was a big bonus.

Liked the quote from poor unfashionable CS Lewis at the end, though I still think the Renaissance takes the biscuit when it eventually shows up...and CB has a superb voice, love it to bits.

I haven't heard the programme, but as I actually have "discovered" the CDs featuring in it quite recently (the last 2 years or so), I feel sure that you will discover quite a lot of very enjoyable (and IMO "special" and interesting) music.
