OAE : Handel and Boyce Live on 3 Thursday

    7.00pm
The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment is joined by Lucy Crowe (soprano) and James Gilchrist (tenor) in William Boyce's serenata 'Solomon', plus works by Handel.
Mary Bevan and James Gilchrist join the OAE in music by Handel and William Boyce.

As for Boyce’s Solomon, R3 website tells us:
Boyce is less famous today than his contemporary Handel, but his serenata 'Solomon' was as popular as Handel's Messiah in its time. Its lyrics however were considered too racy for later, more conservative tastes, so it lay virtually unperformed after 1800. Modern audiences are likely to be more open-minded.

    …thank you…

Nice to see this work getting an airing...I have a recording of it from The Parley of Instruments, which came out on Hyperion some years ago as part of their "English Orpheus" series. Boyce is very much to my taste..I love the symphonies and trio sonatas, too.
