Academy of Ancient Music: Live on R3 tonight 7.30 pm

Martin Handley presents the Academy of Ancient Music live at Milton Court in London in an all-Bach concert: Richard Egarr directs two Orchestral Suites and plays two keyboard concertos.

    J S Bach: Orchestral Suite No 3 in D major, BWV 1068
Keyboard Concerto No 2 in E major, BWV 1053
    8.15: Interval
Keyboard Concerto No 4 in A major, BWV 1055
Orchestral Suite No 4 in D major, BWV 1069
    Academy of Ancient Music
    Richard Egarr (director / harpsichord)

Ignore the most inane and inappropriate ‘blurb’ on the website. The music should be good, although I wish they’d had included works less familiar.

Thanks for the heads-up on this doversoul. I think I will tune in. A couple of days ago I listened to the Orchestral Suite #4 by The Musica Antiqua Köln, Reinhard Goebel.

Yes, DS, what a shame it couldn't have been a more imaginative programme - that's what I miss about the old days of the AAM, they often gave us rarer repertoire, but now they seem content to remain with all the old favourites!

Incidentally, where is Milton Court? Not a concert venue I have heard of before.

It's a great concert - familiar music, but rendered so fresh and inexhaustible

Yes, there's lots of new stuff round the Barbican.

There are two new cinema screens as well, on Beech St (that horrible tunnel street heading west) http://www.barbican.org.uk/film/new-cinemas
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
            Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

Agreed - way ahead of its time - I mean, how did he know that Hamlet would do that advert?

Great concert. Really getting into early music.

What other early music programmes are there on R3?

Its not on R3, but if he heads out west, he could pop in here at the weekend....
