No, I didn’t very much either. Not exactly my idea of a voice for lute (solo) songs even in Italian songs, though I thought her Stabat Mater was quite good (maybe I became used to her voice by then).. Maria Cristina Kiehr, sings it beautifully but there doesn’t seem to be anything on youtube except in bits.

Kapsberger sounded to me rather grounded.

Heard Campra Requiem for the first time earlier this year, beautiful intricate style, a revelation to me. It sounded good in St Mary's.

To my ears, nobody has ever beaten the vintage recording from John Eliot Gardiner...the opening Introit is beautifully done.

What we had here was far from a requiem but most enjoyable solos and duets. It looks as if there is nothing William Christie and Les Arts Florissants can’t do when it comes to French Baroque (and a lot more).Sheer delight.

Their recording of Campra cantatas dates from quite a few years ago, but comes from their golden period at Harmonia Mundi. Very low price, too!

I also love he Gardiner recording. Does anyone have a recommendation on Gilles Requiem? I seem to not have a recording of this work.

I have always been fond of this recording from Herreweghe and Musica Antiqua Koln, BS. You can get it very cheaply second hand from here:

                        Franco Fagioli: 25 April

Argentinean countertenor Franco Fagioli, an acclaimed interpreter of Porpora's vocal works, performs arias by Porpora and Handel with the Academia Montis Regalis. The programme is interspersed with Vivaldi concertos, recorded at last year's Ambronay Festival

AKA Mr Bartoli, Fagioli must be the Marmite-est of all Marmite (countertenor voice).

                            ‘an orchestral opera’?
